Description

A bamboo calligraphy pen that was used by a marabout, an Islamic scholar or mystic and member of the Traditional Healers Association in Forécariah (Union Préfectorale des Chasseurs Féticheurs et Guérisseurs Traditionells de Forécariah), in traditional healing and divination rituals performed during the 2014 – 2016 Ebola outbreak in Guinea.

The Traditional Healers Association in Forécariah was formed with the assistance of the Association pour la Promotion de la Gouvernance et des Initiatives Locales (AGIL) to facilitate trust and communication between various Western organizations – including CDC – and traditional healers in Guinea after initial conflict during the early days of the Ebola response when traditional healers were asked to stop practicing by foreign organizations.
