Description

A MinION Flow Cell (research use only). This technology was used during the COVID-19 pandemic response to conduct sequencing of the SAR-CoV-2 variants like Alpha and Omicron for genomic epidemiology: using the pathogen’s genome to help identify and track transmission events. CDC's National SARS-Cov-2 Strain Surveillance (NS3) system, programs like Sequencing for Public Health Emergency Response, Epidemiology, and Surveillance (SPHERES) and Technical Outreach and Assistance to States Team (TOAST), all provided technical and administrative assistance to state and local public health laboratories to address barriers to sequencing and analyzing SARS-CoV-2 genomes like supply chain issues, staffing shortages, and communication with subject matter experts in bioinformatics.
